Maryland Hires New Coaches
The Maryland Terrapins hired a new coaching staff for the 2010-11 season.
Coach Bill Krampf has been involved in USA Hockey and coaching for thirteen seasons. He has been an Associate Coach-in-Chief with USA Hockey’s Southeastern District since 2008 and an instructor in the USA Hockey Coaching Education Program since 2002. He coached with the Metro Maple Leaf organization in Odenton, MD and Laurel, MD for thirteen seasons and served as the organization’s Coaching Director for the 2009-2010 season. In 2002, Coach Krampf represented USA Hockey’s Southeastern District at the National Coaching Educators Institute in Lake Placid, NY and in 2009 he represented USA Hockey’s Southeastern District at the National Team Development Program (NTDP) four day co-op in Ann Arbor, MI. Coach Krampf is a Level 5 Certified Coach with USA Hockey.
Assistant Coach Mike Silva has been involved in hockey for over forty years as a player, coach, and instructor. He began his playing career in his home state of Massachusetts which is where he also began his coaching career serving as an assistant coach for a Massachusetts High School from 1982-1985. After moving to Maryland, Coach Silva has been engaged in several clubs in the Washington Metropolitan area coaching with the Chevy Chase Hockey Club in Chevy Chase, MD from 1997-2002, head coach with various teams in the Metro Maple Leafs organization in Odenton, MD and Laurel, MD from 2003-2010, and an assistant coach/instructor with the Sherwood High School team in Sandy Spring, MD from 2007-2010. Coach Silva is a Level 4 Certified Coach with USA Hockey and has CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications.
Assistant Coach Timm Schatz played hockey growing up in Wisconsin and continued his career in college as a four year center for Division III Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. While in high school and during summers in college he was an instructor in summer camps, skill sessions, and training programs in Wisconsin. After graduating in 2004 with a degree in Computer Engineering, Timm moved to Maryland to begin his career with Lockheed Martin. It was there he met Coach Krampf and was quickly lured into coaching. Coach Schatz is a Level 3 Certified Coach with USA Hockey and has spent the last six years as an assistant coach and skills instructor with the Metro Maple Leaf organization in Odenton, MD and Laurel, MD.
