Directions to the ACCHL Fall Meeting

The ACCHL is having it’s Annual Fall Meeting September 6th on the campus of William & Mary. Directions and a campus map are available.

The ACCHL Annual Fall Meeting will be held Saturday September 6, 2008 on the campus of William & Mary.  A General Session will be held at 1 p.m.  Each league will have their separate meetings at 2 p.m.

From the North:

  • While traveling on Interstate 64 east take exit 234, VA-199 towards Lightfoot
  • After 8 miles take a left at Jamestown Road/VA-5
  • After roughly 1.2 miles look for the William and Mary campus on your left
  • Turn into the parking lot on the left immediately adjacent to Jamestown Road. 

From the South:

  • While traveling on Interstate 64 west take exit 242A onto VA-199 W towards Busch Gardens
  • After 5.4 miles turn right onto Jamestown Road/VA-5
  • After roughly 1.2 miles look for the William and Mary campus on your left
  • Turn into the parking lot on the left immediately adjacent to Jamestown Road.

Meeting is in Small Hall Room 109(Building #74 on the map). When you enter the building the room is the second door on your left.

George Mason Joins BRHC

The ACCHL and its member teams want to wish George Mason University the best of luck for the coming season as it joins the the D3 ranks of the Blue Ridge Hoceky Confenence.

The ACCHL and its member teams want to wish George Mason University the best of luck for the coming season as it joins the the D3 ranks of the Blue Ridge Hockey Confenence. After the conclusion of the 2007-8 season, George Mason  announced its decision to withdraw from Division 2 and the ACC Hockey League and to join Division 3 and the Blue Ridge Hockey Conference.

ACCHL Fall Meeting

The ACCHL Fall Meeting will be on September 6th on the campus of William & Mary.

The ACCHL and Blue Ridge Hockey Conference will combine their Fall meetings as they collaboratively work towards developing and marketing collegiate hockey in the region.  The meeting will be comprised of more than 25 teams throughout Maryland, Virginia, District of Columbia, North and South Carolina.  It is anticipated to be the largest Mid-Atlantic college hockey meeting ever held.

The meeting will be held Saturday September 6, 2008 on the campus of William & Mary.  A General Session will be held at 1 p.m.  Each league will have their separate meetings at 2 p.m. 

Rich DiZinno named ACCHL Treasurer

The ACCHL is pleased to announce that Rich DiZinno has joined the ACC Hockey League Board of Directors as league Treasurer.

The ACC Hockey League is excited to have Rich DiZinno join the Board of Directors as Treasurer.

Rich is currently an attorney for Howrey LLP, a law firm focused on antitrust, global litigation and intellectual property law.  Rich is a graduate of George Washington University Law School and College of the Holy Cross. 

At Holy Cross, Rich was a four-year letter winner on the Varsity Ice Hockey team.  He was Assistant Captain for the 1995-6 season and won the 1996 J. Steward Memorial Coach’s Award.  After graduating from Holy Cross, Rich played professional hockey in Europe in the Fall of 1996 with the S.C.I. Eagles and earned a tryout with the Herentals Ice Hockey Club (professional club in the Belgium Ice Hockey Federation).  Rich continues to play competitively in adult leagues and served as an Assistant Coach for the Prince William Hockey Club from 1999-2000.

Ron Ganz Appointed League Scheduler

The ACC Hockey League is pleased to announce that Ron Ganz has agreed to serve as League Scheduler.

The ACC Hockey League is excited to have Ron Ganz join the Board of Directors as Scheduler.  His experience will be an invaluable resource for the league.

Ron has extensive hockey experience, having played consistently from childhood and refereed for the last 12 years.

 

Ron completed his referee training seminar in February 1996 and hit the ice the same night to work his first college game. Over the last 12 years, Ron has continued to referee college hockey, and has officiated juniors and mites. 

 

Ron is originally from Newport News and has two children.

New Commissioner Named

The ACC Hockey League named Don Martin League Commissioner, replacing Mark Henderson, effective March 2008.

At the League’s annual meeting, Mark Henderson, nominated Don Martin as his replacement as League Commissioner.  The board approved Don’s appointment unanimously and Don will assume the Commissioner responsibilities in March 2008.  Mark Henderson will continue in the role of League President, a role he has held along with the Commissioner’s role for the last three years.  Don is currently the League’s Treasurer/Secretary and will continue in this role until a replacement is found.  The league is excited about the leadership, energy and experience that Don will provide and greatly appreciates the service Mark has provided over the last three years.

About Don Martin:

Don is currently Chairman of CapAnalysis Group LLC, an economic consulting and litigation support firm with 50 employees in Washington D.C. He has been in the economic consulting business for over 25 years. Before that, Don was Professor of Economics at University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida and Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia. Don holds a Phd in Economics from UCLA, an MBA from CUNY and a BS from BU.

Hockey experience:  Don began playing ice hockey as a 9 year old with the pee wee hockey program sponsored by the N.Y. Rangers in New York City. He has been a fan and player ever since. Don considers himself fortunate to have played for BU in ’57-’58, “just before they raised their standards.”  While on the faculty at UVA, he started the school’s first club hockey program that operated between 1973 and 1977. At that time, they played teams from NCSU, U. Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, George Washington and the Chesapeake league. After that, UVA hockey disappeared until its modern rebirth in 1995. Don has played with adult hockey clubs in international tournaments in Iceland, Holland, Canada, and the Czech Republic.  He has also coached pee wee hockey locally with Montgomery County MD. Don continues to play pick-up and is in an adult hockey league at the Gardens Ice House, in Laurel MD.
