The ACC Hockey League will hold the annual kickoff meeting on September 11, 2010 at UVA’s Newcomb Hall at 12:30PM.

Charlottesville Ice Rink

Charlottesville Ice Park is under new management. The University of Virginia has reached an agreement with the rink for all home games for the upcoming season to be held at the facility.

2011 Championship Tournament

The 2011 ACC Hockey League Championship Tournament will be hosted by the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill on February 18-20, 2011. UNC is actively working on finalizing details of the tournament. We will post more information on the tournament as details become available.

ACCHL Adds Two Programs

The ACCHL is pleased to welcome George Washington University and the University of Maryland to the league, starting with the 2010-11 season. The addition of these programs will add to the competitve play in the league and is part of the expansion plan led by ACCHL Commissioner Don Martin. Plans are to continue expanding from to the current seven team league to twelve teams in the near future.

Virginia Tech Withdraws from the ACCHL

Virginia Tech notified the ACCHL of their decision to leave the ACCHL, effective for the 2010-11 season.

The Virginia Tech Hockey Program has been a valued member of the ACCHL and we wish them every success as their program undergoes this transition.

Maryland Joins the ACCHL

As part of its expansion plan, Don Martin (ACCHL Commissioner) and the existing member programs,welcome the University of Maryland men’s ice hockey program to the ACCHL, beginning in the 2010-2011 upcoming season. With the addition of the George Washington University, earlier this year, the League is now at 8 teams. Plans are to expand to 12 teams in the very near future.

ACCHL Coaches Meet

Coaches drop their game faces for a friendly meeting at UNC last month to kick-off the 2009/10 ACCHL season. Topics discussed included League expansion, League finances, new criteria for selecting the program hosting the end of season championship tournament, ideas for greatly expanding team booster clubs and fan base development,and for attracting experienced players to come out for ACCHL hockey. Also discussed was ACCHL direct communication with school program administers at each school.

In attendance, clockwise, Dave Kurtz (NC State), Bill Trofi (Duke), Keith Rosenfeld (RIC), Tony Fisher (UVA) Earl Anderson (UNC), John Kokidko (Georgetown), Mike Spradlin (VT)and Brian Meyers (VT). Also in attendance but not in the picture were Bud Johnson (UNC), Jesse Long (VT) and Don Martin (Photographer and ACCHL Commissioner).

All Star Team

The ACCHL All Star Team played against the nations best Division II hockey players.

The ACCHL All Stars joined all star teams from nine other leagues, playing five games in three days, including an OT thriller. This was the first time the ACCHL selected an All Star Team to play against the nation’s best, and the coaches and players represented the league well.

The ACC Hockey League is fielding a team at the ACHA D2 All-Star Challenge in West Chester, PA.

The ACHA D2 All-Star Challenge will match All-Star teams from leagues from around the country. The Challenge will take place April 3-5 in West Chester, PA.

The ACCHL is sending a team comprised of players from all six member schools.
