Final Standings

This weekend, Duke handled Virginia Tech their first ACCHL loss.  After going 9-0 in league play, Tech tried to finish undefeated.  In a nailbiter, the Blue Devils and Hokeys skated to 1-1 tie.  The game was decided in a shootout, where Duke prevailed.

Virginia made a statement a week before the ACCHL tournament that their 1-9 league shouldn’t cause anyone to look past them.  Playing NC State, a team fighting for 2nd place in the league, the Cavaliers won 4-3, pushing the Wolfpack into 4th place.

Georgetown - ACCHL Champions 2008

Georgetown - ACCHL Champions 2008

Georgetown wins in overtime over Duke 3-2 in the Championship.

During the regular season, Duke and Georgetown split their matchups 2-1 and 1-0 in close, hard fought games.  At the end of the regular season, they were tied and named league Co-Champions.  In the tournament, they skated to a 2-2 tie at the end of regulation.  Finally, in overtime, Georgetown settled the issue with a game winning goal.

For the 2006 regular season and tournament winner, Duke fell just short of avenging their loss in the championship to Georgetown last year, allowing Georgetown to become back-to-back champions.

Congratulations to Georgetown in winning the Championship.

The Roanoke Civic Center did a great job hosting this year’s tournament.  As a venue, the arena was great and the staff was extremely helpful throughout the tournament.
